Provisional licence motorbike finance

Plan your next step on two wheels.

Holding a UK provisional licence does not prevent you from making a motorcycle finance application. If you are aged 18 or over, Mallory Motorcycles can explain the process clearly while you choose a bike that suits your experience, budget and legal riding entitlement.

Important for provisional licence holders

You need a valid CBT certificate before you ride.

If you intend to ride a motorcycle on your provisional licence, you must complete and hold a valid Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) certificate before riding on the road. Finance approval does not replace your CBT, licence or insurance requirements. Read our guide to CBT and starting to ride

Provisional licence holders

Choose a bike and agreement that fit your circumstances.

A provisional licence is a normal part of many riders’ journey. A prospective lender may look at your income, regular outgoings, credit history, address and employment history, the motorcycle you are considering and whether the repayments are affordable.

Mallory Motorcycles is a credit broker, not a lender. We can explain the process and, where appropriate, introduce customers to a carefully selected panel of lenders. The lender makes the credit decision.

Build an accurate application

Complete information gives a prospective lender the clearest starting point.

Ride within your entitlement

Check that your licence, training and insurance allow you to use the motorcycle you choose.

Keep the budget realistic

Any agreement must be manageable alongside all the costs of owning a bike.

Before you apply

Get the important details in place.

Taking time to consider the bike and the full cost of riding helps you make an informed decision.

Choose the right motorcycle

Consider the bike’s size, your experience, your licence entitlement and the type of riding you plan to do.

  • Licence and training requirements
  • Insurance availability and cost
  • Suitable size and style of bike
  • Maintenance and running costs

Plan your complete budget

Your monthly payment is only one part of the cost of owning and riding a motorcycle.

  • Insurance, fuel and road tax
  • Protective clothing and equipment
  • Training or test costs
  • Your existing monthly commitments

Have your details ready

Accurate information helps keep the application process straightforward from the start.

  • Address and employment history
  • Income and regular outgoings
  • Bank account details
  • Your chosen motorcycle

Provisional licence finance FAQs

Answers before you apply.

We are here to explain the process clearly, not to make promises we cannot keep.

Can I apply for motorbike finance with a provisional licence?

If you are aged 18 or over, you can make a motorcycle finance application with a valid UK provisional licence. Lender criteria vary and every application is subject to affordability checks and status. Finance is not guaranteed.

Does finance approval mean I can legally ride the motorcycle?

No. Finance eligibility and your legal entitlement to ride are separate. If you intend to ride on a provisional licence, you must hold a valid CBT certificate before riding on the road, as well as meeting the relevant licence and insurance requirements.

Does the engine size affect whether I can apply?

The motorcycle and amount being borrowed are factors a lender may consider, but your ability to legally ride a particular bike is determined by your licence entitlement and training requirements, not the finance agreement.

What information will I need for an application?

You may be asked for identification, address history, income and outgoings, bank details and details of the motorcycle you want to buy. Requirements differ between lenders.

Will I need a deposit?

Deposit requirements depend on the motorcycle, the agreement and your individual circumstances. An approved part exchange may reduce the amount you need to borrow.

Can I settle my agreement early?

You usually have the right to settle regulated hire-purchase finance early. Your lender can provide a settlement figure and explain how it is calculated under your agreement.
