Self-employed income

Your circumstances deserve a complete view.

Self-employed income can look different from a standard salary. A lender may consider your trading history, the regularity of your income, business costs, personal outgoings, credit history and the affordability of the proposed agreement.

We are a credit broker, not a lender. Our role is to explain the process and introduce customers to a carefully selected panel of finance providers where appropriate. The lender makes the credit decision.

Different ways of working

Applications can be considered from sole traders, contractors and company directors.

Evidence matters

Clear, up-to-date documents help a lender understand your income pattern.

Affordability matters

Any agreement must be suitable for your income and regular commitments.

Preparing to apply

Have the right details to hand.

The information needed varies by lender and application. We will only ask for what is relevant to the process.

Income evidence

A lender may ask for documents that show how your business income is received and maintained.

  • Recent business or personal bank statements
  • Tax calculations or tax returns
  • Company accounts where relevant
  • Accountant-prepared information

Your business picture

Trading history and income patterns can help a lender understand your wider financial circumstances.

  • Your type of self-employment
  • How long you have been trading
  • Regular income and business costs
  • Changes that may affect income

Your monthly budget

It is important to consider the costs that come out of your income each month as well as the income itself.

  • Housing and household bills
  • Existing credit commitments
  • Insurance and transport costs
  • Everyday living costs

Self-employed motorbike finance FAQs

Questions answered clearly.

Every finance application is assessed individually. We will be open about the process from the beginning.

Can I apply for motorbike finance if I am self-employed?

Yes, you can make an application if you are a sole trader, contractor, partner or company director. Each application is assessed individually and is subject to lender criteria, affordability checks and status.

What proof of income might I need?

Requirements vary by lender, but you may be asked for recent bank statements, accounts, tax calculations, an accountant’s certificate or other evidence of regular income. We will explain what is needed for the next step.

Can I apply if my income changes each month?

Variable income does not prevent you from applying. A lender will consider your individual circumstances and whether the proposed payments are affordable and sustainable. Finance is not guaranteed.

How long do I need to have been self-employed?

There is no single answer, as requirements differ between lenders. Your trading history, evidence of income and wider application will all be considered.

Will I need a deposit?

That depends on the motorcycle, the amount being borrowed, your circumstances and the lender’s requirements. An approved part exchange may be used towards a deposit or reduce the amount borrowed.

Can I settle my agreement early?

You usually have the right to settle regulated hire-purchase finance early. Your lender can provide a settlement figure and explain how it is calculated under your agreement.
