Important for young riders

You need a valid CBT certificate before you ride.

If you intend to ride a motorcycle on a provisional licence, you must complete and hold a valid Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) certificate before riding on the road. Finance approval does not replace your CBT, licence or insurance requirements. Read our guide to CBT and starting to ride

First-time rider finance

Limited credit history is only one part of an application.

Many young riders are still building their credit history. A lender may look at your income, regular outgoings, address and employment history, the motorcycle you are considering and whether the repayments are affordable — alongside your credit file.

Mallory Motorcycles is a credit broker, not a lender. We can explain the process and, where appropriate, introduce customers to a carefully selected panel of lenders. The lender makes the credit decision.

Build a clear application

Accurate information gives a prospective lender the right picture from the start.

Plan your budget

Think beyond the monthly payment to the full cost of owning a motorcycle.

Choose the right bike

Match the motorcycle to your licence, experience and realistic monthly budget.

Before you apply

Three things worth getting right.

Finance should be a considered decision. Take time to understand the agreement and make sure the monthly commitment is right for you.

Set a realistic budget

Include the full costs of riding, not just the bike and its monthly payment.

  • Insurance and road tax
  • Fuel, maintenance and tyres
  • Riding kit and training
  • Your existing monthly commitments

Have your details ready

Complete, accurate information helps make the application process more straightforward.

  • Address and employment history
  • Income and regular outgoings
  • Bank account details
  • Your chosen motorcycle

Understand the agreement

We will provide clear information so you can make an informed decision before you proceed.

  • Monthly payment and term
  • Total amount payable
  • Deposit and interest rate
  • Important agreement terms

Young rider finance FAQs

Answers before your first application.

We are here to explain the process clearly, not to make promises we cannot keep.

Can a young rider apply for motorbike finance?

Yes, if you are aged 18 or over, you can make an application. Every application is assessed individually and is subject to lender criteria, affordability checks and status.

Can I apply with little or no credit history?

You can apply with a thin credit file or limited borrowing history. A lender will look at your individual circumstances, including income, regular outgoings and the affordability of the proposed agreement. Finance is not guaranteed.

What will I need for an application?

You may be asked for proof of identity, address history, income and outgoings, bank details and details of the motorcycle you want to buy. The information required varies by lender.

Do I need a deposit?

Deposit requirements depend on the motorcycle, the agreement and your individual application. An approved part exchange may also reduce the amount you need to borrow.

What should I budget for besides the monthly payment?

Before applying, consider insurance, fuel, maintenance, protective equipment, road tax and any other regular commitments. The monthly payment must be manageable alongside your wider budget.

Can I settle my finance early?

You usually have the right to settle regulated hire-purchase finance early. Your lender can provide a settlement figure and explain how it is calculated under your agreement.
